According to Chinese astrology, on 17 February we enter the sign of the Fire Horse.

The last Year of the Fire Horse was in 1966. If you were born in 2026 or 1966, you may display certain characteristics of this sign.

A powerful combination: the symbolism of the horse combined with the characteristics of fire

The Horse symbolises boundless energy and a thirst for freedom. The Horse has an adventurous, ambitious and independent spirit, coupled with an unshakeable determination to overcome obstacles.

The Fire element, which is associated with the Horse, amplifies its natural traits. It adds an intensity and passion that make this sign even more remarkable. High energy levels, a desire to turn ideas into concrete actions, the determination to overcome challenges – even if it means taking risks – and the passionate pursuit of one’s dreams.

However, this combination can also lead to a certain degree of impatience or impulsiveness, exhaustion or conflict.

The challenge lies in channelling this powerful energy so that it is balanced. Activities such as meditation, yoga and spending time in the great outdoors can help with this.

The fire has been brought under control

At Sedatelec, fire has been harnessed in the form of a moxibustion device: the Premio 10 moxa.

Find our product

The device enables moxibustion to be carried out without any odour, smoke or ash.

Can moxibustion counteract the negative effects of the Fire Horse? It’s possible!

To calm the mind and in cases of insomnia: Moxibustion applied to the sole of the foot, at the Kidney 1 point, can draw fire downwards, towards water.

To calm the mind: Acupoint 6 RP on the Spleen-Pancreas meridian (not to be used during pregnancy!)

To treat mental and physical exhaustion: The Ren Mai 6 acupoint

Did you know?

Lightning from a major summer storm can exceed 30 million volts – the equivalent of 2.5 million car batteries.

The electric ray is capable of producing electrical discharges of up to 45V at a current of 5 to 10 amps and a frequency of up to 600 hertz.

The Egyptian electric catfish, also known as the ‘Nar’, is capable of delivering an electric shock of between 100 and 450 volts. Egyptian and Greek literature suggests that headaches and migraines were treated using the electric catfish.

The human body generates an electric current thanks to the ions contained in bodily fluids. Only 70 millivolts are produced – a standard AA battery has 1,500 millivolts. According to Mustafa Djamgoz, professor emeritus of cancer biology in London, the body’s bioelectricity is essential to its functioning, as it is through these electrical signals that the different parts of the body communicate.

Electroacupuncture has been practised in France for 200 years:

1820: Chevalier Jean-Baptiste Sarlandière is regarded as the pioneer of electro-acupuncture. His technique involved enhancing the effectiveness of the needles by passing an electric current through them, thereby increasing the effectiveness of treatments, particularly for rheumatism, gout and nervous disorders.

To do this, he mainly stimulated trigger points and also certain acupuncture points. J-P. Sarlandière explains that electropuncture differs from acupuncture proper in that the needle does not play the main role but serves as a conductor for electricity.

He published the first book on electro-acupuncture, *Mémoires sur l’électro-puncture*, in 1825.

Among the pioneers of electrotherapy, particular mention should be made of Dr Thomas NOGIER, born in 1874 in Lyon – who is none other than the father of Dr Paul NOGIER (founder of auriculotherapy).

Thomas Nogier studied physiology, physics and chemistry in Lyon and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree – whilst also studying medicine.

Among other things, he became head of the electrotherapy department, working alongside Professor Bondet.

Together with Henri Bordier (author of *A Handbook of Electrotherapy*), he championed various methods, ranging from localised stimulation using low-intensity current to exposure to high-frequency currents, applied to a range of functional disorders.

He published *Physiotherapy, Electrotherapy* in 1909, and his research contributed to the use of electric current in the treatment of numerous diseases.

Current areas of application for electro-acupuncture or electrotherapy:

In physiotherapy for the relief of muscle and joint pain, etc.

Acupuncture for the relief of sciatica and chronic pain in particular

In cosmetic treatments for slimming (e.g. electrolipolysis) or as an anti-wrinkle treatment

Anaesthesia for people who are intolerant to anaesthetic drugs

What is a fashion trend? The latest craze on TikTok?
No, it goes back much further than that.

PBM – for those who are not (yet???) familiar with it – first emerged in the 1960s, thanks to the research of the Hungarian physicist Endre MESTER. Endre MESTER is regarded as the father of photobiomodulation; he discovered that the use of low-power light or lasers produces beneficial biological effects in tissues. He carried out experiments on rats and noticed by chance that the low-power laser did not cause cancer, but accelerated wound healing and stimulated hair regrowth.

From 1971 onwards, Mester applied these findings to humans and reported favourable results in the treatment of chronic or hard-to-heal wounds and ulcers, as well as certain anti-inflammatory effects.

Photobiomodulation (PBM) is a non-invasive therapy that uses red and near-infrared light (via low-intensity lasers or LEDs) to stimulate cell regeneration and reduce inflammation. [1]

How does it work?

Cellular action: The light penetrates the tissues and targets the mitochondria (the cells’ powerhouses).
Energy production: It stimulates the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which accelerates the repair of damaged tissues.
Biological effects: It reduces oxidative stress, reduces pain transmission and modulates local inflammation. [1, 2]

Main medical and aesthetic applications:
In oncology (supportive care): It helps to prevent or treat mucositis (mouth sores) and radiation dermatitis (skin burns) caused by radiotherapy or chemotherapy, without interfering with anti-cancer treatments. [1, 2]
In dermatology and aesthetics: It is used (particularly via LED masks) to stimulate collagen production, reduce wrinkles and improve skin healing. [1]
In pain management: It relieves joint, muscle or chronic pain and speeds up physical recovery. [1]
