R. Nogier Le Rac - Réflexe Autonome Circulatoire

Book on the "RAC"—the Autonomic Circulatory Reflex or Nogier's Vascular Signal

Written by Dr. Raphaël Nogier and Dr. Anthony de Sousa—with contributions from Michel Marignan, Jean-Luc Vigneron, and Chantal Vulliez

In 1966, Paul Nogier, a physician in Lyon and the inventor of auriculotherapy, discovered a new reflex detectable in the distal arteries, primarily in the radial artery. Physical stimulation of the skin (touch, for example) in a healthy subject instantly alters the radial pulse, making it firmer. This reflex of sympathetic origin, called the RAC (Autonomic Circulatory Reflex), allows for the study of reactions to various stimuli and stressors: colored lights, flashing lights, lights passing through chemical substances, etc. The RAC serves as a kind of measuring instrument and opens up vast fields of investigation in the field of adaptation.

The RAC can be used by any physician during a standard medical examination, providing valuable information for diagnosis and therapeutic follow-up.

Dr. Anthony de Sousa of Geneva was one of Paul Nogier’s most dedicated students, working with him every Tuesday for over twenty-five years. He is a faculty member at GLEM.

Dr. Raphaël Nogier worked extensively with his father, Paul. He is the author of several books and teaches at GLEM.

This book is intended for medical professionals—including physicians, dentists, midwives, and veterinarians—as well as for allied health professionals. It primarily addresses four questions: What is the RAC? How is it triggered? How is it interpreted? How is it used in medical practice?
